NICKI MINAJ _ QUEEN _ Bop or Flop ??? Lit or Skip ??? Who is she trying to be ? She clashes Cardi B !!!

No it isn't a joke !!! Nicki Minaj new album dropped one week before it original  release date. 19 songs (it's a lot), quality duets (Foxy Brown, Eminem, Ariana Grande, Swae Lee). It looks good but does Queen worth it ? I've listened to all the songs, from the Bottom to the top and here is what i think about it.

It's been four years since Nicki did'nt realeased a full body of work. Since the international success of Anaconda in 2014, the rapper's carreer stands still. Most of her projects have been scrapped, her singles flopped (Barbie Tingz) and the competition has became ferocious. While Iggy Azalea made a successful come-back with the Survive the summer E.P, Cardi B the rookie of the hip hop galaxy already touches the stars. For those who hibernate since last winter, Cardi B, it is gigantic hit songs (I like it / Bodak Yellow / Be careful), an album which changed the game (Invasion of privacy) and some cult duets (Bruno Mars / Rita Ora / Maroon 5 / Migos). Vicious tongues will say this is the whole N.M carreer summarised in few months.

So what does Nicki prepared us to face her rivals ? Will she stop playing a role and showing her booty (we have seen enough of it) to keep her crown ? Punchlines, blood, fake nails, cat fights, prothesis massacre … Let's see what Nicki have got for us …

FIRST TRACK, BACK TO BASICS OR BACK TO WHACK /:)

First of all, first track, Ganja Burn. There's a lot to say about this song and it's not really positive. It's everything i usually hate about Nicki and it's also everything i did'nt want Queen songs to be. The flow's slow, dull & sluggish. Nicki rap with her deep and boring voice ("baby i swear it's déjà vu"). The production is messy, there's too much information to catch and the song is five minutes long. INDIGESTIBLE !!! 

Anyway, i notice the west indies inspirations, a badass guitar solo in the end (does somebody knows the guitarist ?) and lyrics stay well written. "I could wage war or I come in peace like Gandhi / All my powers back now i'm scary to zombies". 

AIE AIE AIE ; BAD START 💩 

As Ganja burn (2/10), some songs are very caricatural & effortless (Rich Sex (3/10), Hard white (3/10), Come see about me (4/10), Sir (4/10)). Instrumentals are too gangsta, Nicki keep her bearded-woman voice and her autotuned and repetitive flow really bore me. Lyrics are effective "Sex / Rich / Brag". This is not that bad, but in two month, everybody will forget those songs. I think Nicki can really thank Lil Wayne who rescued Rich Sex. By the way good punchline ; "I never played a hoe position / I ain't never had to strip to get the pole position" poor Cardi.

IT'S GETTING A BIT BETTER !!!!!!!! 😌

If those 4 songs were shitty, others are way better. I liked Miami, Good form, 2 lit 2 late and Nip tuck (7/10). Nicki allows herself to be less serious. It's bouncy, fun, well-produced, WE HAVE A BALL. There's also some more experimental songs like Tought i knew you, where The Week-end voice really melts into the instrumental. TOTAL TRIP !!! Then comes Bed (6/10) with Ariana Grande. Danceable, sunny, a real summer hit. Nicki takes risks, finally !!! Nothing to say.

YASSS QUEEN, THAT'S GOOD !!! 🔥🔥🔥

Here are, in my opinion, the best songs from this album : they will end up in my playlists for sure. Coco Channel (8/10) and her boucing drums is perfect for dance & Foxy Brown is excellent in this song. Chun li (8/10) is very well-produced. Even if it is as hip hop as songs like Rich Sex, Nicki really slays on this beat. I also really enjoyed Chun Swae (8,5/10) ; 6 minutes to fly. Go listen to this song if you want to be high.

Here is my final top 3 of Queen songs. LLC (9/10) lead the way. The beat mix hip hop sonorities and japanese video games vibes. The flow is perfect and Nicki shows us a more girly voice (thank god). On the second place there's Majesty (9/10), featuring Eminem. There's a lil bit of Kanye & Jay Z in the air, this lovely jazzy piano, this interesting mismatch between chorus and verses and the badass Slim Shady verse that makes it unforgettable. Excellent. I think you finally guessed that Barbie Dreams (10/10) is my favorite song in this album. In the beat there's James Brown & Notorious B.I.G which is already a very good start. On this track, we get back the Nicki Minaj we love with her funny voices and her fast and sharp flow. Furthermore, lyrics are cute cause Nicki shoutout to her friends Yo Gotti, Kanye, or Quavo  instead of clashing her rivals. Her best track ever.

Before i give you my final opinion i would like to highlight Nicki's hypocrisy. She accused Iggy Azalea of using ghost-writers. Well, just compare Queen and Survive the summer teams and let me know what you think about it in the comment section. 
Also, this verse was very well written "I never played a hoe position / I ain't never had to strip to get the pole position" but who showed her butt since 2011 uhhh ? Is'nt it you Nicki ? "Come on bitch nice try".

VERDICT;

It's hard to describe Queen. My opinion is mixed. Queen, it's the best and the worst. Congratulations to Queen teams because there's a good glue that link songs to each others and give the album coherence. On the other hand, i boo Rich Sex & Hard white producers who created the more common shit i ever heard. Also, big shoutout to Eminem, Labrinth, Rashad Smith, Mel & Mus, JFK, Soul & Dj Wes who produced my favorite songs on this album. 
Congratulation, Nicki. I feel like, now she know how to surround and renew herself,  by the way, don't forget that Nicki not only write most of her lyrics but also write them well. I give Queen 6,5 points out of ten.
